Chapter 2 - Simple Stuff

More good times. Simple stuff. Stuff so insignificant, probably doesn’t justify writing or reading but….

(Luckson will appreciate this.) Luckson and I bought some $10 sandals before he left for Harding (like a 2 for 1 deal). Well, I tried them out when I got here to the DR. They hurt my feet. (Oh, part of the story is that they are Reebok sandals.).

I pray God plants in my heart the gratitude He has planted in the heart of Marsil for these sandals!!

I decided to give the sandals to Marsil. First, he says over and over thank you (he notices the Reebok emblem right away!). Believe me, true eyes of gratitude are hard to disguise. (and fake eyes are hard to disguise too) And, I tell him that I’m sure the sandals are going to hurt his feet. He says, “No they won’t, cause they’re free!” (I start laughing at his amazing and clever answer.)

I see him wearing the sandals all the time. I ask him, “Are you sure they’re not hurting your feet?” He says, “Norm, I already told you, they CAN’T hurt my feet, cause they are free!” We now laugh about it every time he wears them; he tells me to put the story of his sandals in my blog. So here it is.

I’m sure Marsil has taught me a huge life lesson, if I will just listen and learn.

I guess this chapter is about gratitude. The lessons I always forget. Especially when I’m in the US. You all know that God has blessed me (& you) with so so much. The top of the list is my family and friends. But there are also the earthly gifts that are too numerous to mention as well. But, each time one of these “earthly gifts” or even gifts of family and friends start “hurting my feet”, I want to give them back to God or pass them on to someone else. “You take them; I thought I wanted that gift, but turns out they hurt a little, or sometimes a lot.” But if they truly are a gift from God, my faith that should be saying, “They can’t hurt, ‘cause they’re from God”, seems to be missing. I guess another way to put it is, “ALL THINGS work together for the good of those that love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose.”

I wonder if Marsil knew he was paraphrasing (living) Romans 8:28?
